Stan voices his present intentions, "I just wanted to check with you first, Leah."
Leah's voice is overcome with emotion, "I feel the same way as you do, Stan."
The sound of tape being peeled off a roll is heard. Stan rolls with it, "Then stick with me ---until I can get you a ring, instead of tape."
Shannon gasps for breath, trying not to make a vocal sound with the sudden intake of air. She slips back quickly along the wall. She cannot face them just yet. She has to compose herself first.
Shannon does well with composing herself. After several minutes, she knocks on the barn door and hollers inside. She acts surprised. And the tears are there, of course.
Leah rushes to her and cries with her, telling her how much she has missed her. Then she shares the news with her. She says she wanted Shannon to be the first to know. The rest would find out in church this coming Sunday. Stan had planned to announce his intentions then.
Shannon can truly say she is happy for her sister. But the sadness she feels, she truly must hide.
